ok the thing i dont get is, why do you need a gigantic, thick wire for the power cable to power the amp, which in turn moves the subwoofer, but the sub cables are just normal thin speaker wire???
i dont get how little thin speaker wires can move a big sub and it isn't a problem, but the power cable to battery has to be a low gauge??

well, my car is completely f*cked up...
i wanted a longer bolt to stick in the positive battery terminal so i could connect amp power cable, so i found one that looked it would fit in my garage...it did fit, but apparently i shouldn't have kept screwing it in, because half way through it stopped going in and i realized it stripped the inside of the battery terminal, so i pulled and finally screwed it out of the battery after 10 minutes, and the bolt seriously ripped out the inside of my battery... some how a washer inside of my battery melted itself to the bolt or something, so i have this cap on the end of the bolt that my battery and amp cables are connected to and won't come off...i tried grinding the bolt off, but i only got halfway through so far, and i've already screwed up the other wires connecting to the bolt in doing so...
fml...so much more money to fix this sh!t, and my parents are away for a week, so my dad can't help me fix my car

Lower gauge means less resistance. The subwoofer just needs a voltage signal... the amp actually increases the power of the signal.

ooohh ok
So why wouldn't the speaker wires need less resistance vs the power cable needing it?
sorry if that is a dumb question, i don't get things until it all makes complete sense in my brain (which is hard to do )
sooo i had to buy a new battery, but connected the power wires correctly this time
Ok fur I have a few more questions lol, you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but I just like to know how this stuff works, and i figure you might know since you are an engineer genius... Lets say I have a subwoofer - 4 ohms of resistance, and a 700watt amp, a 12v battery?? So if I divide 12v/4ohms I get 3amps? That doesn't really make sense to me, what exactly does that tell me? I can push 3 amps at 12v with 4 ohms of resistance or something?
Or what if I did 700w/12v for the current...which would be about 58amps, so I can push 58 amps through to the sub with 700watts of power?
Yeah i dont even know, im just confused, mixing things up, don't know what I'm talking about lol

Eh, I'll answer to the best of my abilities.

So why wouldn't the speaker wires need less resistance vs the power cable needing it? |
The amp is usually meant for high powered equipment, so it needs the biggest gauge possible. The rule of thumb is the larger the diaphragm, the thicker the wire (because you need a larger signal to move it). A tweeter will always have a tiny wire because it's just a tweeter. I guarantee you the wires going into the sub are fat.
LoL as to your other question... there's a difference between RMS (Watts) output and amps... You can't just use Ohm's law the circuit is much more complicated than that. More RMS power means more energy going to the speakers but it is not a good measure of sound output. The resistance generally tells you how large the speakers are. As to the amps and signal intensity, it depends on how the signal is conditioned before it reaches the actual mechanical movement.
You don't need to worry about actual amperes, the measure of current. Just don't touch anything over 1 amp that's all.
EDIT: I thought about this some more and changed the above post...

Aww that sucksss... Don't ever mix friendship with business... it sucks when one side lets the other down...
On the upside, how much would it be to install a bass into my car? =/
I think it would be a waste of gas though. All that energy into something I technically already have.

FYI I am home now and America is a beautiful place indeed.
BTW I saw a video about catfih farming in Viet Nam. Do not order catfish or BASA in the market or in a restaurant!!!!!!! The vdeo was disgusting and I will never eat catfish again unless I catch it myself.

Hayyy... I'm backkkkkkkkkkkk...
Haven't had internet for a few days...
I was suppose to leave on a flight to the US today butttttt they were overbooked and ask for volunteers...
so I volunteered...
I got $600 travel coupon, free hotel + dinner and breakfast so pretty good deal imo... lol...
might do it again tomorrow if they offered... $1200 would be nice and would be enough to pay for US - Thailand trip.

oooo sweeet
ok so my friend basically completely ripped me off, the subs didnt work, and the other ones he is going to replace them with arent worth what i payed at all, they are new the same price as i am paying for used ones....
this thing was seriously the biggest fail ever...if i had to go back id just go on amazon and buy the amp, sub, box combo and get all the right stuff for even cheaper
im thinking ill just have him refund all of my money and ill get sub and box from amazon

Seriously, i am so pissed off right now, because this is my best friend and I help him with so much.
I gave him my old computer which I could have sold for like $400...then a few days ago i fixed this lady's computer stuff that he knew, and she gave me 50 bucks and I let him have it since he said he needed it...I got him his job....and he completely rips me off with this stuff
and i ask for my money back and of course he says he doesn't have any right now...lying bitch
